Pre-prepare the following in advance:
- Prepare the mezze a day ahead and leave it to rest in the refrigerator. It can be served cold or at room temperature.
- Tomato sauce for the main can be cooked a day ahead and kept in the refrigerator until reheating to serve.
- The cake can be baked and soaked in syrup a day ahead. It can be preserved at room temperature for one day, or in the fridge for longer.
